Gisela Dachs is a Full Professor at the European Forum and the DAAD-Center for German Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She is also an international publicist with extensive experience reporting for French, German, Swiss, and Austrian media.
She studied Literature and Philosophy at Sorbonne University in Paris and holds a PhD from Tel Aviv University, where her research focused on media use and migrant identities.
Her journalistic career began at the French daily Libération in Paris. She later joined the German weekly DIE ZEIT, starting as a political editor in Hamburg before serving for two decades as the paper’s correspondent in Israel.

HU-EF Barometer: In 2022, Prof. Dachs founded the HU-EF Barometer, which collects data through regular surveys tracking mutual perceptions between Israel and Germany.

DFG Project: She serves as Principal Investigator for the Israeli-German audience research project, “From Dallas to Berlin-On-Demand: The Transnationalization of Meaning? A Multilevel Replication Study in Israel and Germany,” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
She has authored several books on the history, politics, and culture of Israeli society, including the Country Report Israel (2016), published by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education. Since 2001, she has edited the Juedischer Almanach, published by the Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem.
Her teaching covers media, migration, European topics of common concern, French-German relations, and German-Israeli relations.
