In Memory of Professor Anton Pelinka

The European Forum and the Center for Austrian Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem mourn the passing of a dear friend and esteemed colleague, Professor Anton Pelinka, Professor of Political Science at the University of Innsbruck.
For many years, Professor Pelinka maintained a close and fruitful relationship with our Center and with Austrian Studies at the Hebrew University. As long as his health permitted, he visited us regularly, offering our students exceptional insights into his vast knowledge of Austria’s political system, contemporary history, and culture of remembrance.
Through his lectures and conference contributions, he generously shared his expertise and was always open to engaging discussions on Austrian-Israeli relations and the political developments in Austria, Israel, and the European Union.
It was through Professor Pelinka’s initiative that our Center established its close partnership with the University of Innsbruck—a collaboration that has provided our students with unique opportunities to experience academic life in Austria. He was also a devoted mentor, supporting the research of our young scholars, supervising master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, and inspiring generations of students with his dedication and intellectual curiosity.
Professor Anton Pelinka passed away on October 3, 2025, at the age of 83. With his passing, the European Forum and the Center for Austrian Studies have lost a great supporter, a true bridge-builder, and a loyal friend.
